First, why people buy during live commerce

Not because the product is “nice”.

Not because you’re live.

People buy in a LIVE because:

  1. They feel safe with you

  2. They can picture the product in their life

  3. They believe the offer is worth acting on now

  4. Buying feels easy, not effortful

  5. The room energy makes staying (and buying) feel like the obvious choice

That’s the real formula.

1) Trust isn’t built fast enough

On TikTok LIVE, viewers decide in seconds whether you’re worth staying for.

If your opening feels vague, overly polished, or “salesy”, they’ll watch like it’s entertainment, not shopping.

Fix: Lead with clarity and care:

  • who it’s for

  • what problem you’re solving

  • what they should do next

2) Your opening hook is too soft

A weak hook creates a weak room. A weak room kills momentum.

Fix: Start with a buyer-relevant problem, not a product intro.

  • “If your skin breaks out every time you try a new cleanser, stay with me.”

  • “If you’ve ever wasted money on leggings that roll down, you’re in the right LIVE.”

3) You’re talking too much and selling too little

This is the classic presenter trap. You’re being helpful… but not directing.

In QVC world we used to say: information doesn’t sell, decisions sell.

Fix: For every 60 seconds of talk, make sure you’ve included:

  • a demo

  • a benefit (not a feature)

  • a clear CTA

4) Your CTAs are unclear (or too polite)

If you don’t tell people what to do, they’ll do nothing.

And if you whisper it once, they’ll miss it.

Fix: Make CTAs visible and repeatable:

5) You’re not lifting buying barriers in real time

8) Poor product sequencing

One of the biggest QVC lessons: you don’t sell products, you sell a journey.

If you start with the wrong item, you attract the wrong buyer energy.
If you jump randomly, you lose trust.
If you bury your hero product, your CTR drops.

Fix: Sequence like a pro:

  • 1 hero product to anchor attention

  • 1 fast-moving “easy yes” item to start orders

  • 1 premium item once trust is built

  • rotate back to bestsellers frequently

9) Lack of social proof

When viewers can’t see evidence, they hesitate.

Fix: Bring proof into the room:

  • reviews (read them out loud)

  • “best seller” context

  • creator/customer stories

  • live demonstrations that remove doubt
